Deal in place: Man Utd reach "agreement" for new signing as Mainoo exit heats up

Manchester United have now reached an “agreement” to sign a “very technical” midfielder in 2026, it has been revealed.

Man Utd looking to sign new midfielder with Mainoo's future uncertain

Man United splashed the cash during the summer transfer window, but they ultimately didn’t manage to bring in a new central midfielder, with Ruben Amorim predominantly giving Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro the nod in the middle of the park so far this season.

There are doubts over the Brazilian, however, given that he saw red against Chelsea time out, with Wayne Rooney branding the 33-year-old picking up a second yellow card as “naive”.

Manuel Ugarte has also received his fair share of game time, with the Uruguayan starting in the 3-0 defeat against Manchester City, and being brought on as a substitute in three of the other four Premier League games United have played.

That is despite the fact Ugarte has received criticism for his performances ever since making the move to Old Trafford, with club legend Gary Neville saying after the Manchester derby defeat: “Ugarte and Fernandes played in this fixture last year from start to finish, and United won the game, but Ugarte is not good enough.”

Kobbie Mainoo, on the other hand, is pushing for an exit, having received very little game time, and there have even been suggestions that rivals Manchester City could make a move, having exploded into the race for the midfielder’s signature.

With Mainoo’s future up in the air, Man United have now struck a “preliminary agreement” to sign a new young midfielder, according to journalist Pipe Sierra, who took to X to state a deal for Fortaleza CEIF midfielder Cristian Orozco is now “closed”.

Orozco, who captains Colombia U17s, is just 17-years-old, meaning he is not able to sign for United immediately, but the youngster is set to travel to England to complete the move next year.

"Very interesting" Orozco could be future star

The teenager is likely to be some way off first-team level at Man United, given his age, but it is encouraging that he is captain of his national side at youth level, having already picked up nine caps for Colombia U17s.

Journalist Pablo Rios Gonzalez has also praised the starlet, describing him as a “very technical” midfielder, while also stating the soon-to-be Man United player has “great tackling ability”.

Orozco clearly has a bright future ahead, but Amorim’s most pressing task will be to bring in a midfielder capable of making an instant impact at Old Trafford, with the United manager still under very intense scrutiny, despite two wins in the last three games.

Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba is arguably one of the most exciting targets, with former defender Rio Ferdinand recently taking the time to explain why the Ecuadorian could be an ideal fit in Amorim’s midfield.
